So a couple of weeks ago I was riding in my viking and shut the door like I always do except this time it was about 35 degrees outside. Broke the door latch right off. Was very disappointed but thought that I may get it replaced under warranty. Called my dealer and they said that yamaha was replacing these door latches with stronger ones because they have had a lot of them break in cold weather. Was really impressed that they were replacing them with stronger ones and not just the cheap ones they had. Good job yamaha and good job to my dealer. He ordered me new latches for both doors and said when they come in to bring my viking in and they would replace them both.

After waiting 2 weeks to hear back from my dealer I called them yesterday and the latches are on back order so it'll be a while before I get them installed.

I sprayed silicone lube on my latches......inside and out....if you release the door from its open position...the door closes and latches super smooth....don't know if this would help reduce the risk of breaking latches. I know that when I picked up mine...you almost had to slam the doors shut or hold the latch open and the close the door for it to latch properly.

Yeah I had to slam mine. Should have just opened it and shut it but I didn't and it was cold enough to break it

I read about this before I bought my Viking. I have always held the door handle out till the door is closed. That said, I asked my dealer to look it up and he said they would replace them for free even if they are not broken. If I had a trailer I'd take him up on it.

I hope this is true. I put mine in a bind the other day and it popped open and when it slammed shut it broke. I called my dealer they said the latch was almost 40 dollars I will wait a few weeks and ask the about this free replacement

I'm doing the same thing Denny. When I took mine in for service they told me they haven't heard anything about the new latches. I found several Yamaha parts sites that have them for $26 each. But I'm going to wait a couple of weeks and try the dealer again.
