Gotta say that this statement by Yamaha is a reason im gunshy about buying a viking now. I can just see buying one and then next year the new side by side for 2015 has an 80hp v-twin or sonething. What do you all think they'll bring out next year? In thinking sport model with new engine then viking gets that engibe the followibg year.

I think that it will be a 4 seater. I don't see a sports model for a few years yet. A sports model would need a larger engine and be a bit smaller like the old Rhino, to be considered a true sports model. They might be working on a larger engine I don't know but even a 800 or 900 engine in the Viking would not be what most sports riders are looking for.
I figure it will be a four seater and maybe some limited additions color scemes with fancy wheels possibly small cosmetic changes.
As with every successive year model, companies try to make it just that much better. You have to get in at some point. Early adopters for a brand new model tend to deal with the issues that arise with first generation machines. I think the Viking will be no different. The subsequent year models will not change that much IMO. Fast forward a few more years, and they will start making changes.

What exactly are you looking for in a UTV? This machine seems oriented a little more toward utility with a side of sport.
A bigger engine, V-Twin, is long overdue.

After owning a Ranger for a few years I can see the need for the 2 clutch system (belt life, trail side repairs etc...). I know a lot of people don't care for it, but it definitely has it's pluses. I think to be competitive Yamaha Is gonna have to get more sportier, narrower and up the horsepower.

I also know how Yamaha could steal a bigger market share?

Build a transmission that you could shift from low to high range without stopping.... Oh yeah, turf mode too please.

I agree with TimGriz. I don't care what size, shape or its intended use, if they are going to compete in the sxs market they are going to HAVE to grow some balls hire some good lawyers and build some HORESPOWER! Actually I guess I kinda do care about size, I currently have the ranger 800 and I would prefer a yamaha viking type to be less then 60in's wide, a few inches sorter and have a shorter cadge.

I think it would be cool to put an automotive style trans in a SXS.
OR one similar to like the old utility style atv used to have...before the CVT type...shiftable, clutchless...you know...
clock ticking. should hear something soon.
Makes no difference to me, ive already got a Viking.

Yet, if Yamaha ever does come out with a VTWIN Grizzly, i'll sell my Can-am and get a new Grizz. Nothing wrong with my Can-am, but id rather have all Yamahas in my fleet.
the dealer told me today that they are suposed to be releasing the 4 seater in july. i could be wrong but i thought he said this year but at any rate the nxt model will definitly be the 4 seater with no change to the motor. doesnt matter to me tho. jus signd on the dotted line today and will have it delicered tomorrow
I am hearing rumors of a 6 seater
