On the 28th of november while out moose hunting here in Alberta Canada , it was -29c my viking i had just bought 28 days before on the fist day of Nov , blew the dipstick out and all the oil as well. , did not smell the oil or hear when the dipstick come out . Needless to say my motor is toast !! Wondering if anyone else has had problems ,, not sure what caused the preasure beside something freezing up we was driving in just over a foot of snow and only doing about 15 to 20 mph ,, yamaha says there is no way the crank case preasure got that high to pop out dipstick !! But something caused it too !!

Check the air vent running to the airbox....i've been told that could cause that if it freezes.

Ya , Yamaha says that is impossable to built that much preasure to blow dipstick out without blowing throttle body or other seals ,, and it was definatly cold enough , frost bite after a 4 mile walk to the truck to pull it out and get it on the trailer
So they said warranty wont cover it !!
I might know someone who knows something about this.....let me look into it and see if I can find anything out. Don't hold your breath though.
Dipstick blew out with less than 7 hours!!!!!

We had the same experience with our brand new Viking ice fishing this weekend in -15F weather.

Call it in and make sure you mention that another Viking owner had the same issue on this forum. PLEASE call, Yamaha needs to know what issues were having.

Yes DOOOO call! There is power in numbers and, just like these sagging shocks, if you have an issue you need to call!
Well they had two yamaha reps look at it and the service manager said he got a call an hour later and was told to fix it under warranty !! So i figured they found something but are not saying !!
Some of the Folks on the other site have had the same issue...you should check it out and compare notes. Unfortunately, this forum will not let me post the link....or any link to the other forum even though it might help fellow Viking Owners????

EDIT: The cause of this has been found...again, I can't post the link to the thread on other forum but the info is there.
Well after two yamaha reps looked at it they call the service manager at the dealership where i bought it and told them to fix it ,, guess there is another fourm the same as this one but at dot org maybe check there as well !!! They still told me it was my fault the dipstick blew out ,, i operate a 30 million dollar machine everyday at work and check the oils on it !! I told them they better make sure there are no leaks cause i will never pull the dipstick again !!
A guy on the other forum had the same thing happen, and had it on video when it let go. You need to show your dealership this...
This is obviously a problem in the severe cold! FYI: It's a great video but, if you want to just look at the dipstick issue...it's shown in the very beginning and the very end.
